How Jay-Z helped Meek Mill laugh off his viral fall

Meek Mill is not ashamed of his viral video where he slipped and fell down the steps outside his mother’s house. The rapper recently revealed that he received a text message from his mentor and friend Jay-Z, who had some words of wisdom for him.

In an interview with Angie Martinez on Power 105.1, Meek said that Jay-Z reached out to him after the video went viral on social media. “He texted me like, ‘You know you’re a legend when you can laugh at yourself,’” Meek recalled. “He was like, ‘That was a legendary fall.’”

Meek said he appreciated Jay-Z’s support and humor, and that he was not embarrassed by the incident. “I was laughing at myself too,” he said. “It was just funny. It was one of them things. You gotta charge it to the game.”

Meek also explained how the fall happened, saying that he was wearing new Balenciaga sneakers that had no grip on the icy steps. “I hit the first step and I knew I was going down,” he said. “I tried to grab the rail and I missed the rail. It was over.”

Meek shared the video on his Instagram account on January 10, 2023, with the caption, “They spoke a L into existence … leaving out my mom’s house was tragic for me! Icey ass steps!!! U fall get right back upppp! I ran off on plug twice.” The video has since amassed over 12 million views and thousands of comments, including some from celebrities like Kevin Hart, 50 Cent, and Nicki Minaj, who all poked fun at Meek’s mishap.

Meek and Jay-Z have a long history of friendship and collaboration, dating back to when Meek signed with Roc Nation Management in 2012. Despite Meek leaving Roc Nation in 2022, the two have remained close and have worked together on various projects, such as the Reform Alliance, a nonprofit organization that aims to reform the criminal justice system. Jay-Z has also been vocal in his support for Meek during his legal battles, calling his 2017 prison sentence “unjust and heavy handed” and writing a powerful op-ed in the New York Times.

Jay-Z also addressed Meek’s departure from Roc Nation in his verse on DJ Khaled’s “God Did”, where he rapped, "Me and Meek could never beef, I freed that n***a from a whole bid, Hov did"23. Meek co-signed Jay-Z’s sentiments by reposting the lyrics and adding, "Never!!!".

Conclusion

Meek Mill and Jay-Z have shown that they have a strong bond that goes beyond music and business. They have supported each other through thick and thin, and have also shared some laughs along the way. Meek's viral video of him falling down the steps was not a source of embarrassment for him, but rather a reminder of his legendary status and his friendship with Jay-Z, who texted him some encouraging words. Meek and Jay-Z are two of the most influential figures in hip-hop, and they have proven that they can never beef.
